IOC Reveals Full 2028 Olympic Football Fixtures and Venues

The International Olympic Committee confirmed the full football schedule for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games on Monday, outlining a nationwide tournament that begins on July 10 and concludes with finals at the Rose Bowl.

Football will be staged across multiple cities in the United States despite Los Angeles serving as the host, with matches scheduled at six Major League Soccer venues. The expanded footprint allows supporters across the country to attend Olympic fixtures rather than limiting games to a single metropolitan area.

The tournament opens four days before the official opening ceremony to manage player workload during the summer calendar. The men’s gold medal match is set for July 28, followed by the women’s final on July 29, both at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

Venues confirmed for the competition include stadiums in New York, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, San Jose, and San Diego. Each location will host group-stage matches, with knockout rounds distributed across selected cities before the tournament returns to California for the medal fixtures.

The competition format includes 16 teams in the women’s tournament, an increase from 12 in the previous Olympic cycle, while the men’s competition will feature 12 teams. The United States men’s and women’s teams have secured automatic qualification as hosts.

Group-stage matches will take place between July 10 and July 18, followed by quarterfinals on July 20 and 21. Semifinals are scheduled for July 24 and 25, leading into the bronze medal matches on July 27 and 28.

Ticket registration for the initial draw remains open until Wednesday, with general ticket sales for all Olympic events expected to begin in April.

The distributed schedule reflects a broader approach to hosting Olympic football, aligning with the scale of the United States and increasing accessibility ahead of one of the largest sporting events on the global calendar.
