Tottenham forward Richarlison scored a 90th-minute equaliser to secure a 1-1 Premier League draw against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. Dominik Szoboszlai had given Liverpool the lead with a first-half free kick, but Spurs struck late to deny the hosts victory.
The result delivered Tottenham their first point under interim manager Igor Tudor and continued a frustrating pattern for Liverpool, who have repeatedly conceded goals late in matches this season.
Szoboszlai’s free-kick breakthrough
Liverpool took the lead in the 18th minute after being awarded a free kick roughly 30 yards from goal.
Szoboszlai stepped forward and struck an effort that ultimately found the net via the hand of Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. The shot was not aimed directly into the corner, but the contact with Vicario proved enough to push the ball across the line.
The goal marked Szoboszlai’s fourth direct free-kick conversion in the Premier League this season — a figure only two players have surpassed in a single campaign.
Vicario responded later in the half with a key save, tipping Cody Gakpo’s shot onto the post to prevent Liverpool doubling their lead before the interval.
Spurs threaten despite difficult season
Despite their league struggles, Tottenham showed attacking intent throughout the contest.
Richarlison came close twice before half-time with headers, the first drifting narrowly wide and the second forcing a strong save from Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.
Historically, the signs were not encouraging for Spurs. Prior to this match, Tottenham had only avoided defeat twice in 13 previous Premier League away games at Liverpool after trailing at half-time.
Yet the visitors continued to push forward in search of an equaliser.
Ngumoha’s energetic display for Liverpool
Liverpool introduced 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha into the starting lineup, making him the club’s fourth-youngest Premier League starter at 17 years and 198 days.
The teenager frequently tested Tottenham right-back Pedro Porro and produced several promising attacking moments.
His best chance arrived early in the second half when he cut inside onto his right foot but failed to curl his effort past Vicario. Shortly afterward he forced another save from distance as Liverpool attempted to extend their advantage.
Even so, the match remained open.
Richarlison strikes again at Anfield
Tottenham’s attacking threat increasingly revolved around Richarlison, who continued to trouble Liverpool’s defence during the second half.
Alisson was required to make further saves from the Brazilian striker either side of the hour mark.
Then came the decisive moment.
In the 90th minute, Randal Kolo Muani drove into the Liverpool penalty area before laying the ball across goal. Richarlison finished calmly into the bottom-left corner to level the score.
The goal added another chapter to Richarlison’s strong record against Liverpool at Anfield. It was his fifth Premier League goal at the stadium, with only Andrew Cole having scored more there as a visiting player in the competition.
Another late setback for Liverpool
Liverpool’s inability to protect their lead reflected a broader trend during the season.
The equaliser represented the eighth time the club has conceded a Premier League goal in the 90th minute or later during the campaign — their highest total in a single season.
It also meant Liverpool have dropped seven points from winning positions at Anfield this season, matching their highest figure since the 2016-17 campaign.
For Tottenham, the point provides modest encouragement after a difficult start to 2026 in which they had yet to win a league match.
For Liverpool, however, the match reinforced a recurring issue: late goals continue to undermine otherwise controlled performances.
