Man Utd Advance Bruno Guimarães Move To Replace Casemiro

Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães for $91.9 million (£69.1 million), with Casemiro nearing the end of his contract at Old Trafford. Reuters reported that Casemiro has personally recommended his Brazil teammate as the right successor in midfield.

Guimarães has played alongside Casemiro for Brazil since making his senior debut in 2020, and the United midfielder is said to view him as an ideal replacement because of his leadership and experience. The 28-year-old offers some of the same defensive qualities that defined Casemiro’s peak, while also carrying more box-to-box presence and a greater goal threat.

There has also been initial contact over a possible deal, with mutual interest described as part of the early picture. Guimarães’s future at Newcastle has become a growing talking point after the club’s Champions League elimination and the increasing likelihood that Eddie Howe’s side will miss out on next season’s competition.

Real Madrid Interest Adds Another Layer

Reuters also said Real Madrid have renewed their interest in Guimarães, which could complicate Manchester United’s pursuit. Madrid previously tried to sign the midfielder from Lyon in 2022 before Newcastle completed the deal.

That earlier push came under Carlo Ancelotti, and the Italian is still described as influential through his current role as Brazil head coach. Real Madrid’s need in midfield has become more pressing after failing to replace Toni Kroos or Luka Modrić across the previous two summers, while speculation also continues around Eduardo Camavinga’s future.

Guimarães Move Would Not Solve Every Midfield Issue

Even if Manchester United complete a deal for Guimarães, questions would remain about depth in central midfield. United had already been linked with new midfield additions before Casemiro’s departure became clear, and replacing one senior player would not fully address the broader lack of numbers in that area.

That leaves the club facing a wider recruitment decision. Elliot Anderson remains a target but is valued at more than $130 million, with Manchester City and Bayern Munich also linked. United are expected to operate with a larger budget because of a likely return to the Champions League, yet midfield is not the only area under review, with interest in a left winger also mentioned as part of the summer rebuild.
