Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea Next Five Fixtures Compared

Manchester United Liverpool and Chelsea players during Champions League race

Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea head into the international break with the race for Champions League qualification still unresolved. With seven Premier League matches remaining, the next five fixtures for all three clubs include direct meetings and several high-pressure tests that could determine who finishes in the top five.

United remain in the strongest position of the three after a draw at Bournemouth, while Liverpool and Chelsea both suffered damaging away defeats. Those setbacks have kept the race alive heading into April, with each side still facing fixtures that could shift the balance quickly.

Manchester United Hold The Edge But Face Direct Rivals

Manchester United are currently best placed among the three clubs, sitting in third and holding an advantage over both Liverpool and Chelsea. Their next Premier League match comes at home to Leeds United on April 13, a fixture that appears the most favourable on paper before the schedule hardens.

The next five then bring Chelsea away on April 18, Brentford at home on April 27, Liverpool at home on May 2 and Sunderland away on May 9. That sequence gives United two direct matches against fellow Champions League contenders, and those results could prove decisive if the race remains tight into May.

Michael Carrick’s side will also know Aston Villa remain part of the wider battle for a top-five finish. Even so, United enter the run-in from a position of relative control compared to their closest rivals.

Chelsea Face Immediate Pressure After Another Setback

Chelsea’s schedule offers little margin for recovery. Liam Rosenior’s side begin with a home match against Manchester City on April 12 before hosting Manchester United six days later, giving them two major tests in quick succession.

Chelsea then travel to Brighton on April 26, host Nottingham Forest on May 2 and finish this five-game stretch away at Liverpool on May 9. That final match at Anfield could carry major consequences, particularly because it pits Chelsea directly against another side chasing the same target.

The difficulty of Chelsea’s run is made more significant by recent form. After their latest away defeat, they now need results in matches where dropped points would strengthen rivals around them.

Liverpool’s Run Includes A Derby And Two Huge Six-Pointers

Liverpool open with Fulham at home on April 11 before travelling to Everton on April 19 for the first Merseyside derby at Hill Dickinson Stadium. They then host Crystal Palace on April 25, visit Manchester United on May 2 and welcome Chelsea on May 9.

That run gives Liverpool two direct meetings with top-five rivals in the opening weeks of May, but there are challenges before then. Everton away carries a difficult recent history, while Crystal Palace have already beaten Liverpool three times this season.

Liverpool’s inconsistency has left little room for error. The defeat to Brighton was their 10th in the Premier League this season, and the next five league fixtures arrive alongside major cup and European commitments.

With United, Liverpool and Chelsea all still taking points off one another, the race remains open. What separates them now is not only league position, but the order and difficulty of the matches still to come.
