Rosenior Responds After Chelsea’s Fourth Straight Defeat

Liam Rosenior said he is still learning about Chelsea after a 3-0 defeat to Everton extended the Blues’ losing run to four matches in all competitions. The result at Hill Dickinson Stadium damaged Chelsea’s top-four hopes and increased the pressure around the club before the international break.

Chelsea have now lost to Everton, Newcastle United and Paris Saint-Germain across their last four games, with the Champions League tie against PSG ending in an 8-2 aggregate defeat. Saturday’s latest setback also left Chelsea without a goal in three straight matches in all competitions for the first time since September 2023.

Rosenior acknowledged the scrutiny that has followed a difficult week, but pointed to Chelsea’s points return in the Premier League since his appointment in January. The Chelsea head coach told Sky Sports that the club’s recent performances had created understandable criticism, while insisting the squad must stay composed for the run-in.

“I’m learning about this club. It’s a massive club,” Rosenior said. “There’s been a lot of noise, a lot of negative noise, rightfully so after our performances in the last week.”

Rosenior also stressed that Chelsea’s work under him remains at an early stage. He said the group have taken 17 points from his first 10 Premier League matches in charge since replacing Enzo Maresca, and argued that form over that period should offer perspective despite the current downturn.

“We’ve had 10 games in the league together as a group. We’ve got 17 points,” Rosenior said. “I think we’re fourth in my time, so we have to forget the noise. We have to keep our confidence and our composure.”

The Chelsea manager added that the international break may have arrived at the right time, giving his players a chance to recover before the closing phase of the season. “The international break has probably come at a good time for us to restock, re-energise ourselves and go again for a really important run-in,” he said.

Everton, meanwhile, strengthened their own push with a result that moved them to within two points of Chelsea. Beto scored twice and Iliman Ndiaye also found the net as the home side recorded back-to-back Premier League wins at Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first time.

James Garner said the atmosphere was the best he had seen it, while Beto described the game as a must-win occasion for Everton. The victory also continued a strong home record for the Toffees against Chelsea, with Everton now having won six of their last eight home league meetings with the Blues.

For Chelsea, the concern is immediate. Four straight defeats, three scoreless matches and mounting external pressure have turned the final stretch of the Premier League season into a significant test for Rosenior and his squad.
